Slovakia-The Land of Slovak Paradise

from Postcards by Esther Wong

/

about

Slovakia, a place full of surprises and challenges in the midst of the ordinary.
This piece is based on a traditional Slovak folk song “Pust ma, baca (Let me go, shepherd)”, often played by the traditional wind instrument Fujara. Taking the Fujara’s characteristic overtones and the traditional folk tune, the piece reflects a journey in Slovakia, a road trip from Banska Bystrica to Kosice, exploring the mountain region- High Tatras, Mala Fatra and Slovak Paradise. Slovak paradise, a national park renowned for its meticulously designed hiking trail full of ladders, ropes, chains, suspended bridges and platform, aiding hikers to explore the many waterfalls and gorges.
